Statutory health insurers often subsidise osteopathy; the amount varies by insurer. Private insurers and supplementary insurance reimburse depending on the plan. Please check this with your insurer beforehand. You will receive an invoice from me to submit. Cancellations are free of charge up to 2 days before the appointment.
Good to know
Is there a free initial consultation?
Yes. In a short conversation of about 15 minutes, by phone or, by arrangement, at the practice, we clarify your concern and whether osteopathy is an option for you. It is non-binding and free of charge.
Will my health insurer cover the costs?
That depends on your insurer and your plan. Many statutory insurers subsidise osteopathy, private insurers often reimburse part of the cost. It is best to ask them before your first appointment.
How can I pay?
You receive an invoice after the treatment. You can pay by card or instant bank transfer.
Do I need a medical referral?
No, you can come to me without a referral. If you would like your health insurer to subsidise the costs, get a prescription beforehand and have your insurer confirm the subsidy.
Does the treatment hurt?
Osteopathy works with gentle, mindful pressure. Some techniques can feel intense but stay within a range that is comfortable for you. Tell me at any time if something is too much.
Will I notice anything after the treatment?
That varies from person to person. Many people feel more relaxed afterwards, some feel tired. Sometimes a tingling can occur, which usually fades by itself. You may also become more aware of one area of your body than usual. Feel free to get in touch if you are unsure.
How long does the tape last?
The tape is made of elastic cotton with a latex-free acrylic adhesive. It is breathable and water-permeable and, when applied correctly, stays on for several days, including in the shower. Exactly how long is individual. After the application, please note: if you get itching, redness, pain or swelling, remove the tape and get in touch with me.
When is taping not suitable?
I do not use it if you have an acrylic allergy, open wounds, unhealed scars, certain skin conditions, a clotting disorder or take blood-thinning medication. We clarify this beforehand in the medical history. If you do not tolerate plasters well, I apply a small test strip first. Taping complements the treatment and does not replace a medical assessment, for example if a fracture or a serious injury is suspected.
How many sessions will I need?
That is very individual. Often several appointments at shorter or longer intervals make sense. After the first session we discuss how to proceed.
How long does an appointment take?
The first appointment takes 60 to 90 minutes, because we begin with a thorough conversation. Follow-up appointments take about 60 minutes. N.I.T. is part of the osteopathy appointments and does not need a separate session.
Does osteopathy replace a visit to the doctor?
No. For me, osteopathy is not an alternative to conventional medicine but a complement – another perspective on your body. For acute or unclear complaints, medical clarification always comes first.
How does this differ from physiotherapy or chiropractic?
All three work with the hands but set different priorities. Physiotherapy often works with exercises and training, and frequently right at the painful spot. In osteopathy I look at your body as a whole and ask how structures are connected and what may be influencing each other. The approaches often complement each other well.
Is osteopathy scientifically proven?
That is a fair question. For some areas, such as back pain, studies show a benefit. For others there is so far little research, and opinions differ. It matters to me that you know this. I work with what I find in you and what you bring with you, and I will tell you honestly if something is better placed in medical hands.
Do you also treat pregnant women and teenagers?
Yes, I also treat pregnant women and teenagers from the age of 14.
Can I come if I take painkillers or blood thinners?
Yes. Please tell me beforehand which medication you take. With painkillers you may feel less, and with blood thinners pressure marks are more likely.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing in which you can move easily.
Can I carry on as normal after the treatment?
Yes, you can continue your everyday life as usual. On the day of the treatment, drink plenty of water and avoid excessive exercise.
Can I cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Yes, via the link in your confirmation email or by phone. Up to 2 days before the appointment this is free of charge.
